The Mayor of Mexico City, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum has presented a new initiative that aims to sportingly inspire young people.
The initiative will involve baseball, boxing, wrestling, soccer, wrestling and others.
World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman said that being part of this initiative is a such an honor, because historically boxing is for the people and by the people.
He emphasized the need to guide our youngsters unwaveringly along the highway of good, offering them quality time and really working for society, making Mexico a better country.
He emphasized the commitment that the WBC has with youth, and assured that the whole boxing family will work together with the City Government.
Mayor of Mexico City, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum, recalled her years as a university student, participating in the rowing team of UNAM, Appreciating the sacrifice of athletes to gain a medal or a championship, channeling discipline, dedication, commitment, willingness, courage and passion.
She added that the problem of public insecurity is a very delicate issue, because with great sadness, as it’s realized that many victims and victimizers are young…often less than eighteen.
Claudia Sheibaum stated that when a young person does not have access to sports and to study culture, it can be easy to lose direction and go astray.
So she considers that both sports and education should be a right combination for children and young people. Therefore there’s a great need for sports idols to evolve into ambassadors, being models of inspiration.
She added that currently the Government of the City has granted scholarships to almost two thousand sports promoters, who must serve 600 young people. They have Also allocated economic support to high performance athletes.

Plus Olympic champions, Juan Paredes, Agustin Zaragoza, Antonio Roldán, Joaquín Rocha, who were named Ambassadors of Peace.
The Mayor urged each and every one of the new ambassadors to promote the joy and guiding light of sport in every corner of the City.
