Referee Mike Griffin with an elegant Mexican stylish touch

Greatly experienced Referee Mike Griffin, was the third man in the ring, officiating the fight between Canelo Álvarez and John Ryder.

What drew, garnered and gleaned global attention was the golden charro bow that he wore during the fight.

This year we celebrate 200 years since the state of Jalisco was founded and in recognition of this Mexican state by boxing, Mike wore this beautiful suit.

Benito Santos, designer from Guadalajara, was the author of the uniform design inspired by Guadalajara and its charra influence. He made a three-piece look: pants with the composition of cotton and polyester, white shirt with the composition of cotton, with motifs inspired by the traditional charro from Jalisco present in front pockets, cuts and buttons.

Finally, to close with great fashion, a charreria bow tie in gold with applications of the same color.
The charrería bow is an accessory that dates back to the beginning of the 19th century, which, although it has undergone transformations over the years, is synonymous with elegance and great personality in the charrería culture, which has its origins in the beautiful state of Jalisco.

Under the motto “We are Jalisco, 200 years Free and Sovereign”, the Government of Jalisco celebrates the 200th anniversary of its foundation, which has included a series of events, activities and commemorative acts throughout the State in 2023.
