Super Lightweight Champion of the World Boxing Council, Regis Prograis, will stake his title for the second time, when he faces compatriot Devin Haney, until recently Unified Lightweight Champion, in the main fight of a card that will take place this Saturday, at the Chase Center, the stadium of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, in San Francisco, California.
Prograis and Haney promoted the “Golden Gate” fight at a press conference and photo session, for this fascinating duel that will feature two superb and exciting stars.
Haney, 24, will make his debut in the 140-pound super lightweight division when the undefeated and undisputed lightweight former champion takes on New Orleans super lightweight monarch Prograis. Prograis, 34, has fought at 140 pounds fornearly all of his career since the robust barrel-chested southpaw made his professional debut in April 2012.
The younger Haney outpointed three-division champion Vasiliy Lomachenko on the scorecards of his last fight, a close and thrilling 12-round bout that he won by decision in May at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs), based in Katy, Texas, will make the second defense of the then-vacant WBC 140-pound crown he won when he knocked out Jose Zepeda (37-4, 28 KOs, 2 NC) in the round 11, last November at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Prograis signed a three-fight deal with Matchroom four months ago, partly because he wanted these types of high-profile fights.
The fight is organized by Matchroom Boxing and will be broadcasted on DAZN.
