In the Plaza de Toros, Cancun KO artist William “Cameron’’ Zepeda (18-0, 16 KO’s) tore through willowy Oscar ‘’Temible” Flores (12-3, 12 KO’s ) in just two rounds. Lightweight Oscar tried to keep it at range, but was hammered by sinking body shots and his corner retired him after a torrid second round.
In a WBC Interim Silver welter contest Alessandro ‘Rognoso” Riguccini from Italy successfully defended his title. With his unbeaten record of 23-0 with 19 KO’s, to guard, he mauled Juan ‘’El Nino’’ Ruiz 22-4, 14 KO’s who visibly aged during the contest.
The smaller but rugged Italian didn’t give him a single moment of peace or respite, cutting the distance, backing him up and belting the body. Ruiz’s corner retired him after the third. A quiet uneventful first round. But the momentum noticeably upped in the second. A round later the stocky Italian was in full control and there was little answer to his unremitting onslaught.
In a WBC Youth super bantamweight scrap local Pedro Tut 18-1, 9 KO’s and Cesar Saucedo 10-8-1, 8KO’s went to war in the opening round. ‘’Torito’’ Tut has the crowd roaring in round two with attacks which wobbled little Cesar a number of times. More of the same in the third with Cesar in retreat on the ropes.
In the sixth a peach of a right hook drawing spray prodded Pedro into an onslaught. The pace in the seventh slowed but Pedro caught Cesar with a hard left hook, in the seconds before the bell.
Pedro ‘’Tut” won a unanimous decision but tut, tut, he might have snatched the stoppage if he pressured a tad harder.
