Philippine bantamweight Mike Plania (24-1, 12 Ko`s) scored one of the most important victories of his career, defeating the American Joshua Greer Jr. (22-2-2, 12 Ko’s) by majority decision.
It was the main bout for a Top Rank card this Tuesday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, broadcasted by ESPN.
Plania twice sent Greer to the canvas, at the end of the first round and the second time in the sixth, with left hooks to the face.
This allowed him to clearly prevail on two of the three cards of the judges: 96-92 and 97-91, while the third scored a 94-94 draw.
Greer closed the bout strongly but it was not enough to get the victory against a Filipino fighter who looked exhausted but showed plus summoned great heart to break Greer’s 19-fight winning streak.
In other results, undefeated super welterweight Bobirzhan Mominov (11-0, 8 knockouts) got a six round unanimous decision over Cameron Krael (17-16-3, 4 knockouts).
Heavyweight Héctor Pérez (7-2, 3 knockouts) beat Juan Torres (5-3-1, 2 knockouts).
Undefeated super middleweight Nikoloz Sekhniashvili (6-0, 4 knockouts) defeated Isiah Jones (8-2, 3 knockouts).
