The first defense of the bantamweight title of the World Boxing Council champion, Nordine Oubaali, will be on July 6 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, against Filipino Arthur Villanueva, to be broadcast live on ESPN +.
Oubaali (15-0, 11 KO) defeated Rau’shee Warren to win the vacant 118-pound belt on January 19 in Las Vegas. It was a rematch, since Oubaali also defeated Warren in the 2012 but in the amateurs. The 32-year-old lefty is a twice Olympian and will be the favorite in this fight.
“I’m hoping for a great night of boxing. There will be 10,000 people in the place, so it’s a beautiful evening for Boxing and for Kazakhstan, “said Oubaali.” Fans can expect great entertainment because this fight with Villanueva has all the ingredients to be really explosive. ”
Villanueva (32-3-1, 18 KO) is a 30-year-old fighter who’s been a professional since 2008, and very confident that his experience will lead him to conquer the WBC crown.
“I learned a lot from the fights I’ve had. I’ve been a contender for a world title, and I’ll use all my experience to crown myself as the new WBC world champion,” Villanueva promises.
