One who won ethos of Chon

Born on May 24, 1989 in Long Beach, California, United States, José Zepeda, also known as “Chon” is convinced this is the year in which he finally becomes a world champion of the WBC.

Chon, who made his professional debut on December 25, 2009, defeating Ignacio Mondragon by knockout, quickly became a top of the pops with the fans, and he remained undefeated for almost 5 years.

His first great opportunity came on July 11, 2015. However during the fight against Terry Flanagan he suffered a dislocated shoulder that prevented him from continuing with the fight.

Four years later, the opportunity to be world champion was present again. This time, he would dispute the Green and Gold against José Carlos Ramirez; but Zepeda lost by majority decision.

A bitter defeat that he accepted with integrity and that, instead of undermining his warrior spirit, led him to give two hundred percent.

Vindication of this that came in October 2020, when he got up from four knockdowns, inflicting a quartet of his own, winning by knockout in the fifth round, overcoming Ivan Baranchyk becoming WBC silver champion.

With a third chance, Chon is convinced that things happen for a reason, and that on the night of November 26 he will finally see all his effort and the years he has dedicated to the sport he loves rewarded.

However, he is also aware that the challenge will not be easy, as he will face a dangerous rival, Regis Prograis, an experienced fighter who comes to this match with 27 wins, 23 of them on the fast track and only one points defeat.

“Chon” implicitly trusts in his record of 35 fights won, 27 of them by KO with just two defeats, but also in the gnawing hunger to win the belt and finally become the absolute king of the super lightweight echelon.
