The Filipino Luisito Espinosa retained his WBC featherweight title, defeating Japanese southpaw Nobutoshi Hiranaka by technical knockout in 8 rounds in a fight that was presented at the Marine Messe in Fukuoka, Japan. Everything ended 32 seconds into the aforementioned round, when the referee Guadalupe García intervened. Rudy Ortega, Chuck Hassett and Terry Smith acted as judges.
