Oscar De la Hoya TKO’d French challenger Patrick Charpentier in the third round. With this victory he defended the WBC welterweight crown, at the Sun Bowl of El Paso, Texas. The Referee was Laurence Cole.the Judges were Alfred Assaro, Dale E. Van Hoy and Dae Eun Chung. Charpentier retired From the ring after this fight, which attracted more than 40,000 boxing fans.
