On this day in history, Kingpetch wins world flyweight crown for a third time
January 23, 1964
Pone Kingpetch gained revenge over Hiroyuki Ebihara to win the world flyweight crown a third time.
Kingpetch, who became Thailand’s first world boxing champion when he defeated Pascual Perez in 1960, had been knocked out in one round by the Japanese southpaw four months earlier.
However, in the rematch Kingpetch controlled the fight with his jab to secure a split decision and make history as the division’s first three-time champion.
