1973: George Foreman vs. Joe Frazier
George Foreman dropped Joe Frazier six times in two rounds to win the world heavyweight title in Kingston, Jamaica. Undisputed champion Frazier had been the favorite with a 29-0 record (25KOs) having become the first man to defeat Muhammad Ali in the “Fight of the Century” 22 months earlier.
However, “Big George” sent “Smokin’ Joe” to the canvas three times in each round before Referee Arthur Mercante stopped the action. Both George Foreman and Joe Frazier are considered among the greatest heavyweight fighters of all time.
1988: Carlos de Leon vs. Jose Ma. Flores Burlon
At Atlantic City Convention Center, Puerto Rican fighter Carlos de León, considered one of the best cruiserweight fighters in history, successfully defended his WBC belt defeating José Ma. Flores Burlon via UD.
1988: Mike Tyson vs. Larry Holmes
At the Atlantic City Convention Center, Mike Tyson fulfilled one of his most important promises to his greatest idol Muhammad Ali, by defeating Larry Holmes via TKO in 4 rounds. Holmes had defeated Ali 8 years earlier. After the fight, Tyson promised Ali that he would defeat Holmes in the future. That promise was fulfilled while Ali was in the arena. Ali, Holmes and Tyson are considered among the best heavyweight fighters of all time.
1990: Raúl Pérez vs. Gaby Canizales
At the Great Western Forum, Inglewood, Raúl Pérez vs. Gaby Canizales for the second time. That night Raúl Pérez successfully defended his WBC bantamweight belt via UD.
