On this day in history, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez conquered the first world championship of his career, the WBC super welterweight belt, by defeating Matthew Hatton via UD.
He successfully defended the belt 6 times beating Ryan Rhodes, Alfonso Gomez, Kermit Cintron, Shane Mosley, Josesito Lopez and Austin Trout.
Since then, “Canelo” has conquered 4 weight categories (superwelter, middle, super middle and light heavy). He is currently considered among the best pound for pound fighters.
