January 9, 1942
Joe Louis successfully defended his heavyweight title for the 20th time when he stopped Buddy Baer in the first round.
Baer, younger brother of former champion Max, was dropped three times before being counted out. He retired afterwards with a 54-7 (50 KOs) record.
The pair had met seven months earlier when Baer knocked Louis out of the ring before being floored three times and losing by disqualification.
