The Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports (ABC) is staunchly and unwaveringly opposed to the International Olympic Committee’s decision to allow professional boxers to compete in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Boxing, unlike most other Olympic sports, has inherent risks that could result in death and the ABC is gravely concerned for the health and safety of amateur boxers competing against matured professionals.
It is our fervent hope that the IOC reconsider this allowance and withdraw its authorization for professional boxers to compete in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports was created in order to require compliance with the original Muhammad Ali Boxing Safety Act (Title 15, Chapter 89 of the US Code) and is comprised of regulatory bodies around the world, all with one primary goal: improving the safety of the sports.
