New WBC bantamweight champion Oubaali
Frenchman Nordine Oubaali became the new World Boxing Council bantamweight champion by defeating American Rau’shee Warren, at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
These two fighters clashed as amateurs at the 2012 London Olympics, with the two-time Olympian Oubaali defeating Olympian Warren 19-18 in the flyweight division.
Almost seven years after that confrontation, a new victory for Oubaali with cards of 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111.
This rematch was just as competitive, since Warren controlled much of the first rounds. However Oubaali fought back with power and tenacity.
With this victory, Oubaali won the WBC bantamweight title, raising his professional record to 15-0, with 11 knockouts. While Warren, is now 16-3, with 4 knockouts.
