Former two division world Champion and number one WBC ranked super-bantamweight Luis “Pantera” Nery, made short work of late replacement David “Severo” Carmona with a third-round knockout at the Municipal Auditorium, Fausto Gutierez Moreno in Tijuana.
David had weighed in at one hundred and thirty pounds, while Nery was two pounds lighter. David looked a touch portly, while Nery sporting a crew cut and his bushy beard minus the tash, appeared considerably slimmer.
David who cautiously kept his gloves high and cupped was ponderously slow, trying to be evasive, but plodding was never going to achieve that. A left to the liver alerted him to the raw power of Nery who was stalking him, pawing with the right southpaw lead with that power driving left ready to unleash.
In round two a sharp left jab from David brought retaliation with a crunching left to the ribcage from Nery, who then dispatched him to the canvass with a cracking left hook to the head. Nery then poured it on but David was saved by the bell. Two more left hooks to the head put David back on the canvass in round three and Referee Jose Cobian mercifully saved him at the two minutes seven seconds mark. If he`d had whiskers like Nery, they would have been singed!
