H2O Sylve and Estivan Falcao will headline the Most Valuable Prospects V card with a 10-round lightweight fight on Friday, February 2nd for the World Boxing Council Youth Championship.
The 19-year-old phenomenon Sylve returns to the ring for his first 10-round fight against the Brazilian Falcao. This fight marks a step up in class for Sylve, following his victory over Adam Kipenga and his thrilling knockout of veteran William Silva on the Paul vs. Díaz in August 2023.
With six years of professional fighting under his belt, Falcao will prove to be a challenge after back-to-back victories in 2023.
In another fight Orestes Velázquez and Julian Smith will face each other over 10 rounds. Velázquez (8-0, 7KOs), of Cuba, triumphed over Mohamed Soumaoro in September of last year with an eighth-round TKO.
The Las Vegas-based fighter earned this victory six months after going the distance with Marcelino López on the Benavidez-Caleb Plant undercard in Las Vegas, NV, in March 2023. Inspiring Illinois fighter Smith (7-2 , 5KOs), who is a Chicago Golden Gloves champion and will be making his third appearance in the prospect series, where he recently defeated Julio Rosa (8-3, 4KOs), by majority decision (59-55, 57-57, 60-54).
Smith discovered he had won through sign language and celebrated his hard-fought victory with a heartfelt moment in which his mother joined him in the ring.
Rounding out Most Valuable Prospects V will be undefeated lightweight Florida natives Benigno Aguilar (13-2-0, 7KOs) and Corey Marksman (8-0) over six rounds, and Maricela Cornejo (14-6, 5KOs) will face Kandi Wyatt (10-4, 3KOs) in an eight-round welterweight bout.
Nonito Donaire, former champion in four categories, will provide commentary on these fights. As an expert analyst and commentator, Nonito will bring his incredible and unique point of view to the DAZN broadcast team along with Wade Plemons, Dan Canobbio and Sibley Scole.
