World Boxing Council bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire, is looking forward to a fabulous and fabled rematch against wunderkind Naoya Inoue.
Donaire and Inoue waged all-out war in 2019, with Inoue being rocked in round two, but dropping Donaire in the eleventh round with a searing body shot and winning a twelve-round unanimous decision. Drawing on the fountain of youth, Inoue was able to overcome a fractured nose and a fractured orbital bone, to win a memorable classic.
They meet, greet and clash for the second time on June 7th at the Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, the very same place where they waged their first highly wrought onslaught.
Donaire has since scored two big wins, both by knockout, against previously undefeated boxers Nordine Oubaali and Reymart Gaballo.
At 39 years old, vintage veteran Donaire is in superb physical condition and is highly motivated to go all out for victory.
“Our first fight was brutal and surprising, it was a classic, but believe me, this one is going to be even better. I go into this monumental fight with a new and fresdh mindset, because the first fight with Inoue was an awakening for me. Now I know I can beat him,” Donaire said, adding:
“I am incredibly grateful for the work of Richard Schaefer and Probellum in helping to make this fight happen because it is not only the fight I wanted, but the one the world wants to see. June 7th in Japan will be a special night for the sport and make no mistake, it will end with the victory.”
