The MGM hotel is considered one of the greatest world boxing venues, where the very best fight the supreme.
It opened its doors for a boxing in January 1993 with Julio César Chávez, then considered the best pound for pound fighter, who arrived with an undefeated record in 90 fights to defend his WBC superlight championship against Frankie Randall. On that occasion Chávez visited the canvas for the first time and lost his championship on an historic night at MGM.
Since then, the Arena with capacity for 16,800 people has become one of the most iconic, symbolic and vibrant venues in boxing, as it has hosted important fighters like: Floyd Mayweather Jr., Mike Tyson, Oscar de la Hoya, Juan Manuel Márquez, Manny Pacquiao, Saul “Canelo” Álvarez, Terry Norris, Roberto Durán plus Shane Mosley.
This venue has hosted many fights on the two most important dates for Mexico…of course we are referring to May 5 and September 16.
Let’s remember some of the cards held at the fabulous MGM Arena with which boxing fans have shouted Viva México! At the Independence Day festivities.
