This morning, inside the facilities of the Viceroyalty Patio of the Old City Hall, the Head of Government of Mexico City, Dr. Claudia Sheibaum, Mr. Javier Ariel Hidalgo Ponce, general director of the Mexico City sports institute, and WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman presented a great initiative that had to be postponed due to the pandemic, but now will take place this May 21 a Massive Boxing Class, to break a Guinness record
For Dr. Claudia Sheibaum, this initiative is something that she is extremely excited about as it is not only breaking a Guinness Record, but also sending a message to the world that Mexico is a country of boxing and sports unity.
Happy to receive the boxing family, Dr. Sheinbaum stated that this massive boxing class involves the work of many people who continue with the strategy of making Mexico City a sports benchmark and an ally to build a healthier society.
The Head of Government, who received from the hands of former world champions, as well as the President of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaimán, a giant autographed glove, invited everyone to join this great initiative, because everyone regardless of age, gender or even without having knowledge of boxing can participate.
Finally, she gave special thanks to Mr. Sulaimán, to the champions for being part of this great project, but especially to the Mayor of Iztapalapa, Clara Marina Brugada, and federal deputy Miguel Torruco Garza, who have been instrumental in organizing it.
“Long live sport, long live boxing and long live CDMX!”
Javier Ariel Hidalgo Ponce, said that being in front of so many boxing legends is an honor and a demonstration that boxing is the sport of Mexico and that it is going to be proved to the world, with this massive class. He added that Russia has the record but Mexico will surely exceed it and by far.
For Mauricio Sulaiman, this is a dream come true, because Mexico is a place were champions are born and today all citizens will be able to be part of boxing, live it alongside the legends of the sport and our champions. But also the great trainers and physical trainers, as he anticipated that many of them will be present in this massive class.
Also it was announced a more than deserved homage to a boxing legend: Don Nacho Beristain.
Mauricio stated that this event will not be to break a record but to establish one that will be unbreakable and that will serve as an example to the world of what unity can achieve.
The event was attended by the former world champions Humberto González, Pipino Cuevas, Lupe Pintor, Daniel Zaragoza, Carlos Zarate, Erik Morales, Isaac Bustos, Ana María Torres, Mariana Juárez, plus current WBC champions, Lourdes Juarez and Jessica Gonzalez.
