World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaimán says that Jessie Rodríguez, the new WBC super flyweight world champion, is a source of pride, because despite not climbing to the ring as the favourite, he demonstrated all his power and will against great former champion Carlos Cuadras whom he defeated by unanimous decision last Saturday at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
As we remember, Jessie Rodríguez stepped up to face Cuadras, after his rival Srisaket Sor Rungvisai was not able to fight due to illness.
Mr. Sulaimán stressed that the WBC had great success in approving the fight between Jessie and Carlos, since they knew that Rodriguez was highly prepared to fight since, precisely, the American boxer was scheduled to fight on that card against Fernando Diaz.
“Jessie is a great champion, he was crowned in a spectacular way against another great contestant Carlos Cuadras, today the WBC has a new monarch, and he deserves all our respect, we are very proud of him”.
