World Boxing Council flyweight champion, Mexican Julio César “Rey” Martínez, will defend his crown in the same card as Saúl Canelo Álvarez will face British John Ryder, Saturday night at the Akron Stadium in Jalisco, Mexico.
Martinez’s rival will be Panamanian Ronal “Gallito” Batista (15-2-0, 9 Ko.), who comes to this bout after knocking out Nicaraguan José Cordero in the third round. Batista’s only two losses were, in 2017 against Leosdán Núñez and in 2019 against Russian Mikhail Aloyan.
JC “Rey” Martínez comes to this fight after defeating the Spanish Samuel Carmona and in his previous engagement, he lost by unanimous decision to the renowned Nicaraguan boxer, Román “Chocolatito” González.
His other loss was in his professional debut against Joaquín Cruz, in 2015.
This Friday both fighters passed the official weigh-in registering 111.3 pounds.
