On April 26th, the New York Historical Society and Museum, opened its doors to the World Boxing Council.
Jill Diamond along with champions Alicia Napoleon, Heather Hardy, Raja Amasheh, and Ronica Jeffreys donated a WBC Championship Belt in honor of the first women’s fights, so as to headline Madison Square Garden in NYC. On the belt are pictures of Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor, the main event. Also fighting this night are Faranchon Crew-Dezurn vs Elin Cederroos.
Joining them were Bruce Silverglade of Gleason’s Gym, the Billie Jean King Foundation, producer/artist Shraddha Borawake, the curators for the Center for Women’s History, Valerie Paley, SVP and Founder of the Center for Women’s History and Rebecca Klassen, Curator of Material Culture for the museum..
After the ceremony, which was included in a documentary about women’s boxing and the #SerranoTaylor,. history -making fight, a tour was given through the museum.
This WBC belt will be on permanent display at one of the most prestigious museums in the world. In two months they will also have an exhibit on boxing. I urge everyone to visit this beautiful place so dedicated to history and in praise of our sport.
