Mairis Briedis (25-1, 18 KOs) and Krzysztof Glowacki (31-1, 19 KOs) are ready to contest in the semi-final of the World Boxing Super Series with the World Boxing Council Cruiserweight title on the line, this Saturday at the Riga Arena in Latvia.
Briedis returns to Arena Riga, after the incredible semi final of season 1 of 2018, in which the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk defeated the local hero in a fabulously competitive cliff hanger.
“The fight with Usyk was interesting and very close. This will be a completely different fight, as I have prepared differently, I am mentally different. This is my second chance to be crowned WBC champion and I will do my utmost to win,” pledged Briedis.
“It’s really great that the fight is in Latvia, if someone told me ten years ago that we will have world championship fights here in Latvia, with the green and gold belt in dispute and the best fighters in the world here, I would not have believed it! So this is a dream come true for me.”
Glowacki, originally from Poland, said: “I am very happy to be here and I cannot wait to get into the ring on Saturday. I think it’s going to be a great war and I’m going to win. It’s amazing to be able to win the world crown and win the Muhammad Ali Trophy. That is a dream come true. ”
Kalle Sauerland, Director of Comosa, commented: “It’s great to be in Riga again. We know the atmosphere that this wonderful city has and I find it sensational. All the cruiserweights will enter the ring on Saturday, we will surely watch an excellent card like the previous ones, with impressive performances.”
