World Boxing Council flyweight champion Marlen Esparza (12-1, 1 KO) of Houston, Texas is ready to defend her crown against former champion Eva “La Ley” Guzmán (19-1, 11 KOs) of Maracay, Venezuela, on Saturday, August 6 at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
“I am ready for Eva Guzmán. All fights are serious business for me!” said Marlen Esparza.
“This is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for to show who I am,” said Eva. “After this victory, the whole world will know that I am the most dangerous at 112 pounds.”
Marlen Esparza, born in Houston, Texas, began her boxing career aged 12 after growing up in a home that loved the sport. In May 2012, Esparza became the first American woman to qualify to compete in the 2012 London Olympics, the first year that women’s boxing made its debut as an Olympic event. She won the bronze medal in the flyweight division.
In 2021, Esparza won a unanimous decision victory against Ibeth Zamora for the WBC World Flyweight Championship.
