“Loba” on the redemption trail
Former WBC super flyweight Female champion Zulina has unfinished business with the current champion Lupita Martinez who defeated her and took the title away.
At Mexico City`s Food Market, a hungry “Loba” who`s returned after a twenty months sabbatical for motherhood, says she`s now back in the hunt to regain the Green and Gold Belt she lost in Cancun. She took the first step towards it last Saturday in Mexico City, battering brave Arely Valente, who wasn`t able to come out for the sixth round.
Sporting a small bruise by her left eye, Zulina said it took a couple of rounds on Saturday night to shake off and shed ring rust, regaining her range finding and timing. Trainer Mauro Ayala confides Zulina was initially a tad nervous after such a long layoff. But she soon found her stride and strike rate tempo. So much so that she poured it all on in the fifth and Arely`s corner stopped the fight, after she suffered a broken nose.
Zulina who brought along her baby daughter Zulina Jr said that she`s seeking another fight in April, and then the rematch for the title in blazing August. She confided she wasn’t mentally one hundred percent before the loss to Lupita. But with the motivating factor of her children, she`s determined to regain the crown.
Zulina also pointed out that the only other fighter to defeat her in her forty nine fight career which is distinguished by twenty nine KO`s was Alisia Graf and she avenged that defeat almost seven years later. Zulina is aiming to avenge her only other defeat this summer.
