At the Alcade Dome in Guadalajara, Jalisco, next Saturday, WBC flyweight champion Julio César “Rey” Martínez faces his compatriot Joel Cordova.
Martinez (17-1, 13 KOs) will defend his Green and Gold Belt for the third time on a card presented by Matchroom Boxing, Canelo Promotions, and Clase y Talento.
Julio César was supposed to defend his title on the undercard, where “Canelo” defended the WBC super middleweight title by defeating Turkish Avni Yildirim in February, but a hand injury suffered in the week of the fight, prevented him fighting Puerto Rican McWilliams Arroyo. On the other hand, Cordova (12-4-2, 3 KOs), reaches his first fight for the world title, unfancied but both determined and fully focused.
“I am very happy to be able to fight again and return to the ring. I am even more excited to be able to fight in Mexico. I am very motivated,” said Martínez.
“I have waited for this opportunity for so long that I will not miss the opportunity to fulfil my dreams of becoming a world champion. Many may not know me, but after June 26, many will know my name.” Cordova commented.
The event will be broadcast worldwide on DAZN.
