Dignified and renovated spaces for sports and the full development of girls, boys, young people and older adults are a priority for the Coyoacán Mayor’s office in Mexico City, which is why the Deportivo ‘Mujica’ gym was reopened under the name of “ José Sulaimán Chagnón”, facilities that were reconditioned to serve everyone.
With this reopening, the administration of this Mayor’s office already adds three rehabilitated gyms, six intervened pools, a remodeled sports hall and another one in process.
For this triumph, great champions Víctor Rabanales, Rafael “Bazooka” Limón, Alfonso Zamora, David Picasso, were special guests.
The Mayor of Coyoacán, Giovani Gutiérrez commented that 20 months ago, the gym was in deplorable condition, for which reason he instructed the General Directorate of Urban Works and Services to remodel this sports facility. He also highlighted that, once the space was rehabilitated and renovated, it was decided to name it “José Sulaimán Chagnón”, in homage to a tremendous man, who was one of the emblematic figures of national boxing.
Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the World Boxing Council, recognized the work of the Mayor’s office in rescuing a gym that now serves the community.
“A space is being inaugurated that was a derelict warehouse, and today it is a gym. Now imagine how I feel that this gym bears my dad’s name. Thank you for capturing his memory and his legacy in what is a sports oasis.”
