Finally, and after numerous banking procedures, the José Sulaiman Fund support, which the WBC approved for Hugo Santillán’s family, has reached its destination.
This was confirmed by Elizabeth Juarez, widow of the young boxer, who reported the allocation of the the WBC aid, approved during its Annual Convention in Cancun last October.
The World Boxing Council and the Nevada Community Foundation created the WBC Jose Sulaiman Boxers Fund a few years ago, to support retired professional boxers who were going through difficult patches.
This contribution was made possible by the generosity and support of many of the WBC’s friends, including: the Telmex-Telcel Foundation, organizers, promoters, and many friends affiliated with the organization, especially Hublot Watches, who showed great solidarity with Don Jose´s Dream Auction.
Through this Fund, the President of the WBC Mauricio Sulaimán, preserves the pride and honor of his Father and Lifetime President Don José Sulaimán, in the continuous search to support boxers who are Battling hard times.
For the first time, funds are destined for an Argentine case. The request had been made by the International Secretary of the organization, Mr. Marcos Arienti, who maintains constant contact with the family of the deceased athlete.
“Many thanks to the Sulaiman family, and to the World Council, for this support. We hope that everything goes on its way so that we can get ahead.” These were the emotional, heartfelt and grateful words of Mrs Juarez.
We also want to acknowledge the many friends who cooperated, helping to make this a tangible reality, from one place or another, especially Osvaldo Boulan and Gustavo Zacarías, who were involved in the process from its very beginning, until its final step.
