Former world champion José Carlos Ramírez won a WBC elimination bout in the 140-pound division.
Ramirez minus ring rust (28-1, 18 KOs) returned to the ring after a year-long hiatus to defeat former world champion Richard Commey (30-5-1, 27 KOs) by eleventh-round stoppage on Saturday night at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.
From the first round, Ramirez set out to overwhelm Commey with his constant non stop offense. In each round, the 30-year-old Avenal, California native pinned Commey on the ropes to unleash his powerful punching combinations.
In the eleventh round, Ramírez sent Commey to the canvas with a right hook. Then Ramirez landed a left hook to the liver that dropped Commey a second time and put him out for the count.
