The WBC super middleweight silver champion, Mexican Jaime Munguia, linked via zoom during our Coffee Tuesday to talk about his defining fight against Islangton`s John Ryder.
Munguía obtained a resounding victory, by knocking out the “Gorilla” Ryder in the ninth round. He dropped Ryder four times, in the main event of a card that took place in Phoenix, Arizona.
Ryder came from a 12 rounds fight with Saul “Canelo” Álvarez, to whom he lost on points in May of last year. Munguía had defeated Sergiy Derevyanchenko on points in an extremely intense fight.
Munguía did an excellent job, fighting with strength and intelligence, to defeat Ryder via KO in the ninth.
This is what he commented today to the specialized boxing press.
Jaime Munguia:
I feel very happy about this weekend’s fight. Every time we go into the ring, we do it with the intention of winning. We did a great job. Ryder is a very tough fighter and I feel very happy and proud with the work we did alongside Freddie Roach.
“I’m eager to continue with my career and show that I can be greater. I dedicate the fight to all of you, to all my fans and to the Mexicans who are always there.
I don’t know what’s going to happen at 168 pounds. There has not been any talk, what I can tell you is that we are ready to face the best fighters in the world. If everything goes well, I would like to have at least 3 fights in 2024.
“It is an honor for me to be part of the WBC. I promise to represent this organization with great love and pride.”
