Today, during our Coffee Tuesday, we were very proud and privileged to have the participation via zoom of the brand-new Silver 168 pounds champion, Jaime Munguía.
Jaime Munguía comes from getting an important victory in California after 12 intense rounds against the tough Ukrainian Sergyi Derevyanchenko; to conquer the Silver Belt.
Jaime Munguía, 26, had to dig deep to get one of the most important victories of his career. Saturday night was an exacting test for Jaime, as his Ukrainian rival Derevyanchenko pushed him to the limit during 12 grueling rounds.
Today proud and satisfied by his triumph, he spoke with the boxing press and with the President of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaimán.
Jaime Munguia
“It is without a doubt one of the most important fights of my career. I felt confident. I worked very hard for this commitment, and this is what helped me get ahead. I knew I was landed on hard in the mid-fight, but I also realized that I could still stand and keep fighting. We have to keep working, I felt very good at 168 pounds.
“My body and my height have adapted well to this division. We are going to look for the great challenges and we are going to continue learning.”
“I’m ready for the big names. There are great opponents at 168 pounds; Derevyanchenko was one of them. We have to keep polishing and learning. I see a fight with Benavidez as very possible, it would be a great battle for all the fans.
Mauricio Sulaiman
“Perhaps the importance of the victory you achieved is not yet dimensioned and the only thing left for us is to congratulate you. What you did on Saturday was something spectacular. Coming back from adversity in what was perhaps the toughest fight of your career. With sheer, courage and determination you pulled off the win.
“Welcome to the World Boxing Council family. Congratulations”
