The first woman world champion of the World Boxing Council will step into the ring concluding a brilliant twenty one years career.
Mexican Jackie “La Princesa Azteca” Nava will face Argentine Gloria Yanacaqueo at the Fausto Gutiérrez Moreno Municipal Auditorium in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.
Her professional debut was on May 29, 2001, in Honolulu, against Hawaiian Vicky Cozzy, whom she defeated by a four-round unanimous decision. Quickly the name of the “Azteca Princess” became known, so much so that in 2005, the opportunity with which she always dreamed arrived. On May 30, Curiously, almost on similar dates as her debut, she was crowned the first world champion of the World Boxing Council by defeating the experienced New Yorker Leaona Brown.
Since then, Jackie Nava has become a benchmark in boxing, a leader in women’s boxing, world champion in two divisions, a boxer who has set audience records on open television, who today has a record of 39 fights won, 4 defeats and 4 draws, and although she herself recognizes that these 21 years of career have gone faster than the wind, she also assures that they are years of hard work, effort, learning to persist and persevere, NEVER giving up, well In the end, it is by trying the impossible that the possible is achieved.
In her last fight Jackie Nava, with effective boxing, skill and speed, with variety and frequency of punches, with great ring movement and as intelligent as precise and effective as always, won the WBC Super Bantamweight Diamond belt, deservedly defeating by unanimous decision the legendary Mariana “Barby” Juárez, in the main event of a show presented by Zanfer, at the Tijuana Municipal Auditorium.
“I love boxing, I love training, I love getting into the ring, and we’re leaving at a good level, I think it’s the ideal time to say goodbye to boxing, although as a fighter, I will continue to participate in this beautiful sport in one way or another. On the other hand, we also have a lot of talent at the Jackie Nava Gym, including several professional prospects, who we will give our full support to,” said Jackie.
“We are going to have one last fight and we are going to put on a great show, I will prepare myself as always, with all my dedication, and I want to leave one last satisfaction to my people from Tijuana, who I hope will be with me on October 1. It is going to be a very special card”, stated Nava.
Professional boxer with excellent technique, Bachelor of Architecture, great wife, loving and dedicated mother, excellent friend and human being, pioneer of women’s boxing, a multifaceted woman who has dedicated all her triumphs and achievements to her beautiful family.
Her farewell from the ring brings us a lot of sadness; however, we know we are so very lucky and proud to have coincided in time and space with a true boxing legend.
