The pride of the WBC, Jackie Nava was as a special and very welcome guest at the traditional “Coffee Tuesdays” to talk about her resounding triumph last weekend where she gained victory by unanimous decision against hard hitting Marisol Corona.
Nava showed once again why she is considered one of the finest and most accomplished boxers, not only for her boxing skills but for her charisma and dedication in the ring. The former world champion stated that that night she knew that the rival she was facing would come out with everything, and she was not wrong, since Marisol sought to connect powerful blows; however, she clarified that the key to success was her physical condition and of course her two decades of experience.
“I really enjoyed this fight, each round I worked as if it were the first, thinking about everything I have gone through to get here. I was thinking about my family, my husband, my daughters … everything that inspiresme … I don’t know if this is my last fight? I think I still have a lot to give in the ring, but I am aware that I am not the same boxer. Time, whether you want it or not, does its thing, and you no longer recover the same from an injury, I have always been a woman who gives absolutely everything in the ring, I give 200% to each performance and I want people to remember me like that … I need to think and talk to my team about plans for 2021.”
To the Jackie of 20 years ago I would say: “DO NOT be afraid“, you are going to fall, but you are also going to get up, fear is a state of mind.”
Regarding a possible clash with the new WBC bantamweight champion, Yulihan Luna, Jackie does not rule out the possibility, but she did clarify that during this meeting. She will seek a negotiation that favors her, as she mentioned that this time of pandemic has been very difficult and has affected all boxers.
Without anticipating too much, Jackie Nava assured that she still has in mind the fight with Mariana Juárez, a legend who, despite the defeat against Luna, does not detract from everything she has achieved inside the ring. Also…it`s the fight that the public has been clamoring for.
