Jose Sulaiman and Jill Diamond established WBC Cares as a beacon of hope, for children and young people worldwide, many of whom are fighting for their lives, battling life threatening illness.
WBC Cares visits hospitals, orphanages, schools, community centers to provide toys to children and for Boxing Champions to hug them and encourage them to persevere with all their might. Everything is free and the World Boxing Council absorbs the costs. We believe that children are our future, and we must try our utmost to help those who are up against it struggling against illness or poverty.
The WBC and WBC Cares are proud of all our Cares Leaders around the world. They are our Army of Angels and work without compensation to berger our sport and the world.
Today we are featuring: António Ramalho
What motivates people to join WBC Cares? What have they achieved and what are the aims for the future. We´ve been asking some of our finest people these questions, and this is what they`ve replied:
WBC CARES PORTUGAL
António Ramalho, born in Lisbon, Portugal, started boxing at the age of 14, and is currently a coach for amateurs and professionals. About 20 years ago he founded the Outurela Boxing School. In 2015 he created the Associação António Ramalho Boxing Spirit IPSS, based in Parque Desportivo Carlos Queiroz, Carnaxide Portugal, where it has a gym and a Study Support Center and develops social work with the community. António Ramalho provides children and young people with access to sports and help with their studies, avoiding deviant paths, so that they can have a better life. António Ramalho believes that sport is the best way to “learn to win”.
– What motivated me to join WBC Cares was to see the work that WBC does with the most disadvantaged, unprotected and needy, which is in line with our work, which we perform at our institution in the António Ramalho Boxing Spirit Association, helping children and young people to give another direction to their lives.
-For 3 consecutive years we have organized Boxing Tournaments with the support of the WBC, it has been a great incentive for young people who have the WBC as a reference in boxing. In addition to WBC CARES Portugal, the objective is to raise food and clothing during the tournaments with free entries so that we can then distribute them to families in need.
-We hope that WBC Cares / WBC continues to support its partners around the world to feel motivated in the work they do for Boxing and to help those in need to give opportunities for children and young people to participate, doing sports Boxing, for sure it will be a light for their future as a human being.
It is important a website with all the participants and their work will strengthen the WBC and WBCCARES group.
Best regards, Antonio Ramalho
