In a World Boxing Council lightweight elimination bout, virtuoso Shakur Stevenson defeated Shuichiro Yoshino by TKO in the sixth round at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, with the Referee intervening.
Brilliant Shakur elevated his ranking, reinforced by supreme ring generalship.
Parrying and discerningly discarding Yoshino’s pressure, Stevenson was impeccable defensively, while in attack he was pinpoint accurate, sending his opponent to the canvas in the second and fourth rounds.
Such was Stevenson’s superiority and the flow of one way traffic, that the Referee halted what was becoming becoming a drubbing, in the sixth round.
Jubilant Shakur, who thrilled his hometown fans, improves his record to 19-0, 9 KOs, while Shuichiro Yoshino lost his way, and with it, his undefeated mark. He is now 16-1, 12 KOs
