Hammer vs. Shields…the resounding clash!
After a long wait the “Skyhooks” curtain call announcement that Christina Hammer and Claressa Shields will clash on April 13 in Atlantic City.
The two best female middleweights will be face to face, determined to show the World who is the best pound for pound….right now!
It should be noted that this fight was planned for the end of 2018, when Christina was WBC absolute champion. However, she was obliged to leave the ring for a short time due to a medical issue, so the WBC declared her champion in recess.
At this point, Claressa raised her hand and fought for the then vacant title against Hannah Rankin, defeating her by unanimous decision, for the coveted green and gold belt.
Hammer is now returning to recover that belt that she first held aloft in 2016. Her pristine record of 24 wins, 11 of them by fast track, tells a story of dedication.
For her part, Shields has revolutioned female boxing, having won a gold medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games and magnificently repeating the feat in Rio 2016.
Today as a professional, Claressa has established herself as a fan favorite, because in just two years she has conquered 2 divisions facing the very best fighters on the way.
This is shaping up as a real war and promises to be a classic to remember.
