The RingTV portal reports that an agreement between WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. is nearing completion.
Showtime would distribute the pay-per-event event, and the possible dates for the fight would be February 16 or 23.
If Spence (24-0, 21 KOs) and Garcia (39-0, 30 KOs) reach an agreement, Garcia would not defend his crown against Richard Commey of Ghana (27-2, 24 KOs), as was planned.
Climbing two weight divisions to challenge Spence is a big and appreciable risk for Garcia, but he says that he is ready for this great challenge.
Garcia, 30, comes from defeating Robert Easter Jr. defending his world crown in an memorable fight. Spence, 28, fought on June 16, defeating Mexican Carlos Ocampo (23-1, 14 KOs).
