Stephen “Cool Boy Steph” Fulton remained unbeaten, by winning a majority decision over previously undefeated Brandon “Heartbreaker” Figueroa, at Park MGM, Las Vegas, lifting aloft the Green and Gold World Boxing Council super bantamweight title.
It was a war, between Fulton, who`s now 20-0, 8 KO`s and Figueroa 22-1,17 KO`s. The Judges` scores were 114-114 and 116-112 twice, following a contest of non stop slugging from Brandon, and constant countering from Stephen. A busy night for Referee Russell Mora, who was constantly ordering them to desist from clinches with: “Stop, let go.”
While Brandon slammed into the body and fought mostly from a southpaw stance throwing every punch in the book, Stephen was more selective, liberally using left hooks, uppercuts and counter punches. His volume was less, but his accuracy was keener and more precise. They both really started opening up in the third. Brandon was launching two handed attacks to the body but was getting caught coming in during the sixth with hard right hands and left uppercuts, from Stephen who was unfazed by the attempted blitz.
Brandon was piling on the pressure in the eighth driving Stephen to the ropes and both clinched, with the Referee pulling them apart as the bell rang. Brandon continued the onslaught, but at a price, as Stephen landed left uppercuts, long rights and combinations which were finding the target. Both went to war in the tenth with Brandon showing more aggression and Steven focusing on accuracy.
A ferocious attack to body and head from Brandon in the twelfth and final round taking Stephen to the ropes yet again, where Stephen used his boxing skills to stem the tide. It was a nonstop war in which one threw everything he had, while the other was more watchful and picked his shots.
