Undefeated interim super middleweight champion of the World Boxing Council, David “The Mexican Monster” Benavídez, and former champion Caleb “Sweet Hands” Plant, offered up an open training session to the media, prior to Saturday night`s Fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The media workout also featured fighters who will be on the PPV broadcast, including undefeated rising stars Jesús “Mono” Ramos and Joey Spencer, who will clash in the co-main event, rising lightweight contenders Chris “Primetime” Colbert and Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela, who will meet in a lightweight duel, and welterweight contenders Cody Crowley vs Abel Ramos, in the opener of the PPV telecast.
David Benavidez:
“This is a dream come true. The stakes are high in this fight. I have been waiting for an opportunity like this for a long, long time. The time is right now. This is the best time to make this fight happen. I’m ready to give the fans what they want to see. I’m going for the knockout on Saturday.
“I have tremendous power. Everyone I hit gets hurt. I end up breaking them little by little. This is the most focused time I’ve ever been in for a fight. I know Caleb Plant is going to be a tough fighter moving around a lot. But whatever he brings to the table, I’m going to be ready for it. I’m looking for that knockout and I’m going to get it.
“I just want to push myself. This is pay per view. I want to be in the center of attention. I want to continue to have pay-per-view fights and to do that, I have to push and get the knockout. But I’m not going in there just throwing wild shots. I will be very calculating. This is the best I have ever felt mentally, physically and emotionally. I was already a monster before, but Caleb Plant brought out the ‘Mexican Monster’ in me”.
“It’s a dream come true to headline a SHOWTIME pay-per-view at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Just coming here and seeing my face everywhere and the ring at the entrance of the MGM Grand, I used to see that when Manny Pacquiao used to fight here. He used to tell myself that I’m going to get there one day. Now the day has come. It’s my turn to give these fans what they want to see and be a PPV star.”
“I am going to show what I have always shown. That I am a monster and cannot be stopped.”
Caleb Plant:
“I’m very happy. Thank you to all the fans who showed up today. This is a great fight. Exactly what the fans want and what boxing needs. So make sure you tune in on Saturday because this is going to be big.
I’ve been here before. I’ve been in big fights before. I know what this is all about and I know what it takes. My team and I are fully prepared to raise our hands on Saturday night.”
“[Coach Stephen Edwards] ‘Breadman’ came in last camp and we took things to another level, you’ve seen it at my last performance. We took a couple of weeks off and got back to work. So we’ve been building on that and it will show in the fight.
“I am going back to my old ways and the way my father wants me to box. With ‘Breadman’ being here and echoing that and arguing with each other, we have great chemistry.
Raising my hand is all the motivation I need. It’s super motivating to have my family here with me. I’m going to show that if you fall short or things don’t turn out the way you expected, you should keep chasing and fighting for your dreams.””.
