Former WBC featherweight champion Mark Magsayo will face former WBC super bantamweight champion Brandon Figueroa Saturday night in a card promoted by Premier Boxing Champions (PBC).
The bout, in which the World Boxing Council Interim Featherweight title will be on the line, will take place at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California, and will headline a card broadcast by Showtime Championship Boxing.
Magsayo (24-1, 16 KOs), who is originally from Tagbilaran City in the Philippines and now resides in Valencia, a suburb of Los Angeles, lost the WBC title to Rey Vargas by split decision in their last fight. Magsayo won the WBC title on January 22 of last year, defeating veteran champion Gary Russell Jr. by majority decision.
Figueroa (23-1-1, 18 KOs), who resides in Weslaco, Texas, also fought on the same undercard on July 9, stopping Carlos Castro in the sixth round. This was his first fight since November 2021, when he lost to Stephen Fulton via majority decision in an excellent fight.
Prior to the Fulton fight, Figueroa, also 26, won the WBC super bantamweight world title in May 2021 by knocking out Luis Nery in the seventh round.
This Friday both warriors passed the official weigh-in of the expected fight they will hold. Figueroa registered 125.7 pounds, while Magsayo made 126 pounds, on his second attempt.
