Former world champion Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa defeated former Philippine world champion Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo by unanimous decision, to win the World Boxing Council interim featherweight title, this Saturday at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California. What a fight!
Ferocious Figueroa was always aggressive and managed to overcome a slow start, to take control dominating a tiring but still valiant Magsayo, as the fight wore on, with its wear and tear.
Referee Thomas Taylor deducted points from Magsayo for hitting and holding in rounds 8 and 11.
The final scores were 117-109, 117-109 and 118-108.
With this result, Figueroa improves his record to 24-1-1, 18 knockouts, while Magsayo is now 24-2, 16 knockouts.
Now Figueroa must face WBC featherweight champion, Mexican Rey Vargas.
