Former WBC world featherweight champion Mark Magsayo fights former WBC super-bantamweight champion Brandon Figueroa on March 4 in a card promoted by Premier Boxing Champions (PBC).
The fight, in which the Interim World Boxing Council featherweight title at stake, will be at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California, headlining and highlighting a card airing on Showtime Championship Boxing (9pm ET/6pm PT).
Magsayo (24-1, 16 KOs), who is originally from Tagbilaran City in the Philippines, now residing in Valencia, a suburb of Los Angeles, lost the WBC title to Rey Vargas by split decision on May 9 last year. Magsayo won the WBC title on January 22 of 2022, defeating veteran champion Gary Russell Jr. by majority decision.
The 26-year-old also has wins over Chris Avalos and Julio Ceja. Magsayo believes that a fight against Figueroa can produce short-fused fireworks from Rocketmen!
Figueroa (23-1-1, 18 KOs), who resides in Weslaco, Texas, also fought on the same undercard on July 9, stopping Carlos Castro in the sixth round. It was his first fight since November 2021, when he lost to Stephen Fulton via majority decision.
Prior to the Fulton fight, Figueroa, also 26, won the WBC super-bantamweight world title in May 2021 by knocking out Luis Nery in the seventh round. Figueroa hopes to continue the high octane momentum as a win over Magsayo would propel him to the upper echelons of the 126-pound division.
This Thursday both warriors were present at a press conference prior to the expected fight they will hold. Both warriors were respectful but without hesitation they assured that they will get the victory and win the WBC green and gold title.
