Anthony Dirrell fights Turkish Avni Yildirum for the vacant super middleweight title of the World Boxing Council, this Saturday.
It’s an attractive card that will be broadcast by FOX (10 pm ET / 7 pm PT).
Dirrell (32-1-1, 24 KOs) was ordered to fight against Yildirim (21-1, 12 KOs) after undefeated 168-pound champion David Benavidez (20-, 17 KOs) was declared “Champion in recess” at the WBC convention in October of last year.
Benavidez was suspended for six months after an adverse result in a test conducted as part of the WBC’s Clean Boxing Program.
“This opportunity to be a WBC champion feels good. It motivates me Yildirim is a good fighter and I’m ready for the challenge, ” Dirrell said.
For his part Avni said: “This is a great opportunity and I will not miss it. I will fight hard to achieve the goal of becoming the first Turkish fighter to win the WBC champion belt. “
