Road warrior Devin Haney became WBC, IBF, WBO and WBA World Champion after convincingly defeating George Kambosos Jr. by unanimous decision at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.
Devin Haney used, employed and wrought sure-fire technique, outwitting, pot- shotting and landing on the brave local fighter, taking away his titles and his undefeated record.
Kambosos Jr. proved to have a big heart, vainly trying to figure out Haney’s style and always looking to be the attacking fighter. However, the new unified champion dished up and dished out a master class in jab, counterpunch, speed and defense, often finding the mark with laser left jabs over George’s left arm which frequently dangled low.
After twelve rounds, Kambosos’ face showed the lumps and bumps of battle and that incisive thudding jab that he couldn’t shake off the entire fight.
The judges saw Devin Haney win on points with scores of 116-112 (2 times) and 118-110.
