Cruise control or “Heavy whether” for Usyk?
Undisputed cruiserweight champion, Oleksander Usyk of Ukraine (16-0, 12 KOs), had an exceptional 2018, winning three times abroad, in addition to winning the prestigious “Muhammad Ali” trophy becoming the undisputed winner of the Super World Boxing Super Series Tournament, so now he`s got his pick of opponents.
This year`s new challenges for the champion, include moving up to the heavyweight division. I n 2018 Usyk signed a co-promotion agreement with Eddie Hearn of Matchroom. Hearn who represents several of the world’s top heavyweights, namely Dillian Whyte, Jarrell Miller, Dereck Chisora and Anthony Joshua.
The principal promoter of Usyk is Alexander Krasyuk of K2 Ukraine who said: “At this moment, we are in a necessary rest period. We have two more viable positions with Alexander Povetkin (34-2, 24 KOs) and Luis Ortiz (30-1, 26 KOs), two of the best heavyweights of today. There is a 70% chance that Oleksandr will face some of them in the heavyweight division, although if those options fail, we can defend the cruiserweight titles against Denis Lebedev (32-2, 23 KOs) in March. We plan to meet with Eddie Hearn at the end of next week to discuss our options.”
