Youthful enthusiasm and emerging talent at the CONADE Boxing Academy in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, where youngsters went to show their fledgling skills, with the hope and commitment of reaching the grand final and being part of the second generation in this rarefied sphere.
Former champion, Francisco “Bandido” Vargas, Ambassador of the CONADE Academy of Boxing, was proud as punch, to be part of this project because it serves to detect talent that can develop into polished greatness
“In Mexico there is a lot of talent. Sometimes what is missing are the opportunities. I think this project is providing them, and we are seeing the quality level in Ciudad Juarez.”
The former WBC champ, who started boxing aged at fifteen and represented Mexico in Central American, Pan American and Olympic Games, besides being a former world champion as a professional, reflected that an Academy in his time would have been incredible boost to steer the path to a better future.
“An Academy in my time would have been incredible, because back then, there were no such opportunities. Now they are all here for the young boxers, because they can come to participate, show their talent, that can propel them towards a fabulous future.
“The advice I give to the aspirants is that they come and participate. You have to enjoy it, you have to come with a lot of enthusiasm, and then, you have to have a lot of discipline and be very consistent.”
During the last day of the selection, Director of the Chihuahuan Institute of Sport and Physical Culture, Juan Pedro Santa Rosa González, thanked the participants plus their parents who play such a special and crucial support role.
