Celebrate with the WBC and COMEDEP the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace
In 2013, the General Assembly of the United Nations with the support of the International Olympic Committee declared April 6 as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, with the aim of giving an opportunity to celebrate the power of sport to promote social change, community development, to encourage equity and inclusion and to promote peace and understanding among people, communities and nations.
Sports, historically have played an important role in all societies either in the form of sports competitions, physical activities or games, strengthening social bonds, promoting values such as peace, fraternity, solidarity, tolerance, teamwork and justice.
For the World Boxing Council, sports are the main tool to bring a message of peace to all corners of the world, as well as a motivation for children and young people to follow their dreams and move them away from addictions and violence, bringing them closer to having a different life that allows them to develop in an integral way.
It is for this reason that within the celebrations of the International Day of Sport for the Development of Peace, proclaimed by the UN, the WBC and COMEDEP join the campaign that promotes sport as a form of tolerance and understanding; as well as work, justice, discipline, respect for the adversary and fair play.
This year COMEDEP and the WBC, want to invite all sports and educational bodies plus national and international Olympic committees, federations and athletes to be part of the 2019 #whitecard campaign that promotes the positive and constructive values of sport and that each year reaches millions of people through social networks.
Holding a #WhiteCard, like a referee, is an action that symbolizes the positive power of sport, symbolizing a gesture of inclusion, equity and peace.
The #WhiteCard is recognized as the symbol used to celebrate the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on April 6 from 2013.
Be part of this great worldwide movement and organize an action on April 6. Register it on the platform www.april6.org or participate in the 2019 campaign #whitecard, where you only have to take a picture holding a white card and upload it to the social networks using the hashtag #whitecard.
Join the movement and help us spread the message that sport can change the world!
