When Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fights light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev on November 2nd at the MGM Grande Garden Arena, certainly won’t be a walk in the park.
Anyone who tells you anything different is leading you down the Garden path.
At the World Boxing Council’s 57Th Convention in Cancun informed opinion had some frank views for WBC Franchise Champion Canelo who’s aiming for his fourth weight division title.
Badou Jack said: ‘’Canelo’s people picked Kovalev force reason. But Kovalev is still dangerous and it’s going to be a really good fight. Kovalev still has power and he’s still winning. Anyone can get caught with a punch and they can’t underestimate Kovalev.
‘’ I don’t think Canelo has power as a light heavyweight, but he’s a good boxer and he has to work the inside, because Kovalev’s inside game isn’t the best.’’
Michael Spinks suggests: ‘’Canelo will have to stick behind his jab and move. He must circle Kovalev and move in and then out and capitalize on the things he’s doing right. Using speed to his advantage.’’
Oscar De La Hoya who promotes Canelo mused: ‘’it’s a calculated and tough risk. Take it from me. I moved up six division. Moving up two is going to be very difficult. Canelo’s body shots are going to be a major factor.”
