Matchroom Boxing and DAZN announced a live match series from Mexico in association with Canelo Promotions, as well as Eddy Reynoso and Clase y Talento.
The first event in Mexico’s new four-card boxing series will have Julio César Martínez defending his WBC flyweight title against Joel Cordova at the Domo Alcade in Guadalajara, Mexico on Saturday, June 26.
This is a continuation of the five-year global agreement between DAZN and Matchroom announced last week, and which underscores a major investment that will take boxing to new heights around the world.
The June 26 card, as well as three other events taking place from Mexico, add to DAZN’s current boxing schedule and will be broadcast live around the world.
“This is a great opportunity for Mexican fighters to follow their dreams,” Canelo said of the deal. “Sometimes our champions have to travel internationally to defend their belts and now we plan to provide those opportunities in Mexico and give young fighters the opportunity to develop and change their lives.
“I am very proud to bring this exciting new project to Mexico and these new opportunities for our fighters,” added Reynoso. “There is so much talent in our country and these new shows will allow our champions to defend their belts in their homeland and our prospects have the opportunity to continue growing.”
Matchroom leader Eddie Hearn said: “This is such an exciting project and partnership, and I can’t wait to kick off June 26 and add even more action to the global DAZN calendar.”
DAZN Co-CEO James Rushton said: “This new Mexico series builds on our growing momentum with Matchroom around the world as well as longtime partners Canelo and Eddy Reynoso and together we look forward to bringing more of the best Mexican boxing to fans worldwide on DAZN.”
